Limousins proved popular at the May sale of pedigree bulls at Stirling, achieving the top price of 9,000gn lead bid and a clearance rate of 89% with 41 selling to average £4,474.
Sale top was one from Andrew Burnett’s Spittalton consignment, brought out by stockman Tim Russell, at Upper Spittalton, Blairdrummond.
That was Spittalton Niagra, a 20-month-old son of the 16,000gn Dinmore Jeanpierre.
He sold to the Pennys at Shannas Farm, Clola, Peterhead.
From the same home, the reserve champion, Spittalton Novak, by the same sire, sold at 7,200gn to Willie Dunlop and Sons, Elmscleugh, Dunbar.
Third top at 7,000gn was Dyke Nomad, from Jimmy and Donald MacGregor, Dyke, Milton of Campsie. A Netherhall Gilbert son, he sold to Ian Proctor and Son, Glenlogie, Alford.
Selling at 6,200gn was Homebyres Norton, from John Logan’s Kelso-based herd. Sired by the Haltcliffe Underwriter son, Homebyres Iveson, he sold to J Budge, Kilvaxter, Kilmuir.
The Limousin champion, Maraiscote Orson, from Ian Nimmo, Bogside, Newmains, sold for 5,200gn, to
A Jack, Snawdon Farm, Gifford. He is by Goldies Comet, which has bred sons up to 30,000gn.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to average £4,806 for 31, with an 82% clearance.
Best price was 7,200gn for McCornick Delboy, from Martin McCornick, who had earlier led the Charolais sale.
Sired by Halbeath Pentagon, he sold to MK and G Sprowl, Eastlands Farm, Rothesay.
The show champion, Idvies Eland, from the Fraser family at Newton of Idvies, Forfar, sold at 7,000gn, to Culfargie Estates, Perth. Shown by freelance stocksperson, Kim Brown, he is by Shadwell Black Broughton.
Selling at 6,500gn was Logan Bar Easy Jet, from Murray Lyle, Dunblane. By Rawburn Boss Hogg, he sold to Scrainwood Estate, Alnham.
Hillfoots Egotist, from Jamie Rettie, Upper Craigs, Stirling, was the first of two bulls to make 6,200gn. By Billinge Magic Jack Eric, he sold to R Orr, Heights Farm, Buchlyvie.
At the same price, Neil Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford, sold Tonley Postman, by Blelack Evor, to J King, South Hill of Dripps, Thorntonhall.
A total of 10 Beef Shorthorns sold to average £3,203, an 83% clearance, and a sale top of 7,000gn for Eastmill Lord, from Doldy Farm, Eastmill, Glenisla.
Achieving the herd’s top price to date through the ring, this Eastmill Joop son sold to commercial buyer Keith Adamson, West Friarton, Newport, for breeding replacement females.
Lastly, a small sale of Salers bulls peaked at 6,200gn for the champion Rednock Mercury, from Gill and Malcolm Pye at Rednock, Port of Menteith.
Sired by Rigel Officer, he sold to JDE and SH Proctor, New Dotland Farm, Hexham.
