Braco Show’s wet weather suited the day’s star entertainers, the Quack Commandos, down to the saturated ground, but downpour after downpour proved a serious challenge to sheep, cattle, horse and goat breeders.
The grand parade was cancelled, but the best of the day’s livestock battled it out for the champion of champions award in torrential rain, with Wilson Peters’ 15-month-old cross cattle winner, Islay Mist, continuing her winning streak this summer.
Show chairman Jim Prentice was disappointed with a third wet show in succession, but the committee had prepared well with new drainage on the traditional setting on the edge of the town.
“We upped the publicity for the show this year with posters across Comrie, Crieff and Auchterarder and we had a great turnout of local food businesses in the Country Living area which was a first this year,” he said.
“We just needed a bit of sun to bring in bigger crowds.”
