An unqualified learner driver partially blocked a motorway after taking his new car out for a spin while he was drunk.
Grant Mitchell had only bought the Honda Civic for ÂŁ250 a few hours earlier from the Facebook Marketplace and had several drinks to celebrate.
When he took the car out he only got a short distance before it broke down on the northbound carriageway of the M90, near Kinross.
When police arrived they found Mitchell was nearly four times over the drink drive limit.
Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall told Perth Sheriff Court on Friday: “The offence occurred at 10.30pm on a Saturday night.
“Police attended and found the accused stationary in lane one with his hazard lights on. The car had broken down.
“The accused was sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition. The police could smell alcohol from him and his pupils were dilated.”
He had no insurance and was only a provisional licence holder.
Mitchell’s solicitor said: “His plan was to use the vehicle to learn to drive. He no longer has the vehicle.”
Mitchell, 30, Woodmill Place, Dunfermline, admitted driving on the M90 on May 18 with excess alcohol (182 mgs), with no licence or insurance and sentence was deferred.
He was banned from the road for 18 months in 2010 in relation to another drink driving offence.
