Emergency services raced to the Forth Bridge on Friday evening after a person apparently walked into the tracks.
The person captured on CCTV approaching the structure at around 6pm.
The sighting prompted a search involving lifeboats from Queensferry and Kinghorn, along with coastguard teams from Kinghorn and South Queensferry. A helicopter from Prestwich was also drafted in.
A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said they were contacted by British Transport Police.
He added that the search teams were stood down at around 8.30pm after police officers were satisfied that the person in the CCTV was safe at home.
