Stagecoach has signalled the end of an era by axing conductors on the 73 bus route.
The Arbroath to Ninewells bus route had been one of the only outside London to still have ‘clippies’ but Stagecoach East Scotland has announced they will not return, blaming the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

A company spokeswoman said: “Following a review of our operations, we have made the decision not to reintroduce the conductor role on our 73 route.
“We know our conductors on the 73 route have been a well-loved part of our community and a proud part of our history.
“However, as is the case with many organisations, we are taking very difficult but unavoidable decisions to manage the impact of Covid-19.”
The union Unite says the decision puts 31 employees at risk of redundancy.
