Work on £335,000 of resurfacing work on the A92 between Cowdenbeath and Crossgates starts on Friday evening.
With the southbound section of the A92 used by around 20,000 vehicles every day essential surface maintenance is now necessary.
The work will start at 7.30pm and will take place over one weekend using 24-hour working, with the resurfacing due to be completed by 6.30am on Monday.
Temporary traffic management will be in place on Thursday for preparation works ahead of the resurfacing beginning but this will be lifted before the Friday morning peak.
A contraflow system will be in place between Cowdenbeath and Crossgates during the works.
The Cowdenbeath southbound on-slip will also be closed throughout the weekend with a signed diversion in place via the A92 northbound to Lochgelly, where motorists can then rejoin the southbound A92 to resume their journey.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east representative, said: “The resurfacing between Cowdenbeath to Crossgates is the next phase in a series of improvement works that have been carried out along the A92 in recent months, and has been designed to create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“The resurfacing has been scheduled to take place over one weekend to minimise delays, however we encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
