Two women were injured after an “unprovoked” attack on a train full of fans returning from a Sir Rod Stewart concert.
The women were on a service running between Kilmarnock and Glasgow Central when they were assaulted at 12.30am on Saturday June 18.
British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for witnesses.
Investigating officer DC John McPhilemy said: “The two passengers both sustained injuries to their face, fingers and ribs from an attack that appears to be entirely unprovoked.
“The service was very busy with a number of returning passengers who had earlier attended the Rod Stewart concert in Kilmarnock.
“BTP takes all offences on the rail network extremely seriously, and I would appeal to any passenger who may have witnessed or recorded this incident to come forward and contact us.”
