A person has died after being hit by a train on the line between Dundee and Arbroath, it has been confirmed.
British Transport Police have confirmed that an unidentified person died following the incident on Friday afternoon.
Medics were called to the scene, but sadly the person involved died from their injuries.
Enquiries are said to be ongoing to identify the person’s next of kin, with the incident not being treated as suspicious by investigators.
A spokesperson for BTP said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Carnoustie railway station at 4.39pm today (30 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
Services suspended
Disruption to the rail line continued into Friday evening following the incident, with travellers advised by ScotRail to speak to staff at stations for advice.
The operator advised that services were expected to return to normal on Saturday morning.
