An Angus man was arrested after an alleged disturbance on the east coast rail line.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to Dundee Railway Station following reports of a disturbance on board a service travelling from Glasgow to Aberdeen on Saturday night.
The service was said to have been delayed for about 45 minutes while the incident was dealt with.
A 50-year-old man from Arbroath was held on suspicion of assault and threatening and abusive behaviour, while a 32-year-old from Aberdeen was also detained following alleged threatening or abusive behaviour.
A man who was on the train said: “The train from Glasgow was practically empty, but when it got to Perth a lot of people who had been at Perth Races came on and the train was suddenly really busy.
“The train was delayed at Dundee for about 45 minutes until the police turned up.”
The man said he saw one of the men who had been arrested being escorted from the station by officers.
A BTP spokesman confirmed an incident had been reported.
He said: “We were called just before 9pm on August 20 following a report of an altercation between two men on a train between Perth and Dundee.
“Officers attended and arrested a 50-year-old man from Arbroath on suspicion of assault and using threatening or abusive behaviour.
“Another man, aged 32 and from Aberdeen, was also arrested on suspicion of using threatening or abusive behaviour.
“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
A spokeswoman for ScotRail, which ran the service, said staff were helping police with their inquiries.
She said: “Alleged violence and antisocial behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated on ScotRail services and we are giving BTP all the support they need to investigate this incident.”
