No charges have yet been brought more than a month after the tragic death of a Perthshire toddler.
Coupar Angus was united in grief after little Harlow Edwards was struck by a car and killed while walking along Larghan Park with her brother and sister on October 13.
The Courier can confirm that the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service have only recently received a formal report from Police Scotland regarding the two-year-old’s death.
The toddler’s brother, Leon, 6, and sister, Dionne, 18, were also hit by the car in the horrific accident, with the latter suffering a serious leg injury.
Chief Inspector Maggie Pettigrew, Police Scotland’s area commander for Perth and Kinross, said senior road inspectors have held a meeting with the Procurator Fiscal (PF) in Perth regarding the incident but said no charges have yet been brought.
“Investigations and inquiries are still ongoing in relation to the incident and I know that our roads inspector and his team had a meeting with the PF in relation to the case,” she said.
“However, there may be a period of time yet before any formal report is made regarding criminal charges.”
A Crown Office spokesman added: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report in connection with the death of a two-year-old girl in Coupar Angus on October 13.
“The investigation into the death, under the direction of Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (SFIU), is ongoing and the family will continue to be kept updated in relation to any significant developments.”
He added that no criminal report had yet been lodged with the PF.
‘Ray of sunshine’
Harlow was described as “a little ray of sunshine” at her funeral, held in Dundee on October 25.
Her parents, Sara, 36, and Steve Edwards, 39, are now campaigning for road safety improvements, and have delivered emotional pleas for action to Perth and Kinross Council and Coupar Angus and Bendochy Community Council.
A crowdfunding page set up to provide financial support to the Edwards family following the tragic death of Harlow managed to raise £10,420.
