VIDEO: Xplore Dundee release dramatisation to highlight dangers of throwing stones at buses

Xplore Dundee have released a video dramatisation to highlight the dangers of throwing stones at buses.

The firm had to reroute someĀ of its services several weeks ago after drivers and passengers came under attack from stone-throwing youths in Whitfield, Dundee.

In response, the company has produced a 15 minute video, which it hopesĀ willĀ demonstrate some of the consequences of doing so.

The short film shows a double-decker bus targeted by a youth who throws a brick at the vehicle, breaking the window and injuring passengers.

The bus then swerves towards a young mum pushing a buggy.

Constable Scott Menmuir, Dundee Community Safety said: ā€œWe are well aware of the impact this has on our community and those travelling through Whitfield.

“Throwing stones at buses is not a bit of harmless fun – it is reckless, extremely dangerous and has the potential to cause serious injury.

ā€œAs a passenger or driver on the bus, this can be a very frightening experience and it is extremely fortunate that no-one travelling on the buses has been injured so far.

“This reckless behaviour also has significant risks for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who may also be in the area at the time.

“Those found to be responsible will be charged and reported.

ā€œWe are carrying out high visibility and plain clothes patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

“We are also working with Xplore Dundee to trace those responsible and we are working together with partner agencies to identify opportunities to prevent further incidents.

ā€œWe have carried out a number of talks at local schools to highlight the criminality, impact and risks associated with this behaviour and we would urge you to assist us by reporting incidents or by providing information on those responsible to Police Scotland on 101.ā€
