Roadworks could cause disruption on M90

Motorists look set to face disruption on Monday when the next stage of roadworks begin on the M90 motorway.

Traffic should be busy with the bank holiday but those travelling could face delays with lane closures being put in place northbound, between junctions six (Kinross) and eight (Arlary), following the “morning peak.”

This will be followed by a southbound lane closure following the evening peak.

The resurfacing work, staged over three phases will cost £670,000 and will be the tenth separate set of roadworks on the M90 Perth to Inverkeithing road carried out in the past three years.

A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland, who is responsible for the trunk road network, said: “The installation of traffic management will be phased between junctions six and eight throughout the day on Monday to limit the impact on bank holiday traffic.

“A northbound lane closure will be put in place following the morning peak with a southbound lane closure to be placed following the evening peak. The traffic management will ensure the safety of the workforce and road users whilst improvement works to the central reservations and crossovers are progressed.

“Once the crossover improvements have been completed the teams will set up a contraflow system from Monday, June 5, in preparation for the resurfacing improvements on the southbound section.”

She continued: “The project will involve upgrading sections of the southbound concrete carriageway between junctions six and eight. Upgrades are planned for sections of the central reservation on the M90, followed by resurfacing improvements for two sections of the southbound carriageway, as well as the southbound slip roads at junction six.

“The package of improvements will help upgrade the road surface over 700m of the southbound M90, creating a smoother, safer and more resilient stretch of the M90 for motorists.

“These works follow on from a £3.8 million investment into sections of the M90 northbound carriageway since December 2015, when almost 11km of the 12.3km length of concrete carriageway was repaired and resurfaced in 18 months. The roadworks began by addressing area’s most in need of repair first.

“This method helps ensure the new road surface will remain in a safe working condition for years to come.”

The roadworks will be staged as follows:
May 29 to June 4 – improving and upgrading the crossovers between northbound and southbound sections between junctions six and eight to help in future works when contraflows are required.

June 5 to June 14 – M90 Southbound, junctions six to eight.
June 15 to 18 – resurfacing M90 junction six southbound and slip roads.
