A van escorting a prisoner to Dundee broke down on the region’s busiest road this morning.
Police blocked off the southbound carriageway of the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road at Forfar after the G4S vehicle encountered problems at about 9.50am.
All traffic was diverted as the prisoner was transferred into a replacement van which arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.
He was being conveyed to Dundee Sheriff Court.
G4S director of operations for prisoner escort services in Scotland, Willie Galloway, said: “One of our vehicles broke down on the southbound A90 near Forfar while travelling from Kittybrewster police station in Aberdeen to Dundee Sheriff Court at around 9.50am on Wednesday 7 June 2017.
“A new vehicle was quickly dispatched and, in line with agreed security procedures, police officers closed the carriageway while the prisoner on board was safely transferred to the replacement van.
“The road was re-opened shortly afterwards and there was no risk to the public.”
