Drivers are being warned of major roadworks as a £700,000 project to upgrade old metal gas mains in Leven starts this month.
Power provider SGN said new plastic pipes with a minimum lifespan of 80 years will be installed in Largo Road and Cupar Road.
The company said this would ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for the local area.
The work will start on Monday October 23 and will last around seven weeks.
To help minimise disruption, the project has been split into two phases.
The first on the A915 Largo Road will take approximately four weeks.
It will start near the junction with Blacketyside Farm shop and tea room and move down towards the mini-roundabout with its junction with Cupar Road and Scoonie Brae.
Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration.
The second phase on Cupar Road, near the roundabout with the A915 Largo Road, will then begin and temporary traffic lights will be erected at the three junctions leading to the roundabout.
To help reduce disruption, the lights will be controlled manually between 7am and 6pm.
SGN project manager Paul Farrelly said: “We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption during our essential project.
“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.
“This means once the work has been completed, homes and businesses in the area will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”
The work will take place from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, as well as weekends where required.
