A Fife race track is due to reopen later this week after a huge amount of snowfall forced it to cancel all its weekend events.
Knockhill Racing Circuit near Dunfermline was blanketed in snow on Friday, leaving it unusable for vehicles, with drifts dropping some 3ft of the white stuff onto sections of the tarmac.
Teen drive and family karting events were scheduled to take place across Saturday and Sunday, with the venue remaining “snowbound” on Monday.
Director of events at Knockhill Stuart Gray said things should be ready to start once again on Friday, when a rally experience day is due to take place.
He added the “thaw is on” at the site.
“We are still snowbound, unfortunately it has affected the weekend activities. I think we will be clear on Tuesday,” said Mr Gray.
“Let’s hope we don’t have a repeat of the snow. There is snow lying on the tyre wall where there has been been a bit of drifting, it is about 3ft deep. Other places have probably 3in – 4in.
“We just physically can’t run, it isn’t safe. On Friday we sent staff home at 11am just because the road from Dunfermline is quite elevated and quite exposed. Even if it gets early treatment because of the weather it can very quickly blow over again.
“We can now begin to see bits of ground again. We have a car track day on Saturday, we’re hoping (for) 50 drivers on the track Saturday between 11am and 3pm. That is our first car track day of the year.”
He added winter events always face the threat of postponement at the racing circuit due to weather.
Mr Gray said: “The weather has been quite mild over the last two or three years. I think 2012 was the last really bad winter.
“The problem is if you plough the track it just builds up snow on either side of it. You need to clear the run-off around it as well. The track is 38ft wide and you have got to clear all areas and make it safe.
“You have just got to let Mother Nature do her work and warm up the place.”
