A Dundee entrepreneur has taken inspiration from sleeper buses in Asia to start a private-hire sleeper coach business. Alan Aim hired a firm in Swansea to modify a Mercedes Sprinter van to contain 12 beds. Each berth on the Travel by Knight coach contains air conditioning vents, a magazine rack, reading lights and charging ports. Alan Aim has started a company called Travel by Knight Mr Aim said: “In Eastern Asia there is scheduled service sleeper buses. “We had the Megabus Gold service from Scotland to London but that was withdrawn. “It’s built for 12 people to sleep on long distance journeys. “It’s surprisingly spacious and there are curtains for privacy. “If you’re in a normal coach your seat is barely half a meter wide – these seats are 800mm wide. “You can lie in it and roll about if you toss and turn in your sleep.” Mr Aim said he would consider jobs from anywhere in the UK. He said his company is designed to save people time as travelling and sleeping can be combined. He added: “We are more expensive than a normal private hire coach but cheaper than a coach plus hotel accommodation.” The business recently received an award for innovation at the Coach Tourism Awards. business@thecourier.co.uk
