A man has died and another remains in a “serious condition” following a crash involving an HGV and two cars on one of the region’s busiest roads.
The accident took place on the A9 Perth to Stirling road, at Balhaldie, at about 12.50pm on Tuesday.
AÂ Mercedes E-Class car crashed into an HGV, before also smashing into a Vauxhall Astra.
The 72-year-old front-seat passenger of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 71-year-old driver of the car was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he remains in a serious condition.
Inspector Andrew Thomson from Forth Valley’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died as a result of this collision and Police Scotland will continue to provide them with all the support and assistance they require.
“As part of our ongoing investigation, we are keen to speak with any motorists who were on the A9 on Tuesday afternoon and witnessed what happened.
“I am particularly keen to hear from drivers with dashcam footage who may have recorded the collision.
“In addition, anyone with any other relevant information is also asked to contact police immediately.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 12.58pm on Tuesday, June 12 to attend a road traffic collision on the A9 at Balhaldie.
“We dispatched two managers, two ambulances, our trauma team, our special operations team and a Helimed air ambulance to the scene.
“One male patient was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
