A road has been closed following a “major burst” near a Perthshire reservoir.
The A823 Muckhart to Gleneagles road has been shut off as Scottish Water deal with the incident which has caused “extensive flooding” close to Castlehill Reservoir, near Glendevon.
The route is said to be damaged as a result of the incident, which is believed to have been caused by a burst water main.
A Perth and Kinross Council spokesman said: “A823 currently closed as Scottish Water have a major burst near Castlehill Reservoir.
“They will require the road to be closed as there is extensive flooding in the location and damage to the road surface.
“They have a traffic management company on route to set up a signed diversion and have their own crews on site to assess repairs.”
A Scottish Water spokesman said the road would be closed overnight and was likely to remain shut for some time.
He said a water main which carries untreated water from the reservoir had burst, causing damage to the road.
Crews will be examining the extent of the damage tonight and hope to have a clearer idea of what it will take to fix it in the morning.
“It will be a complex repair job and it is likely to take some time,” he said.
Water supplies to homes and businesses in Fife and Perth and Kinross are not affected, he added.
