A man has sadly died after his vehicle struck a railway bridge on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy.
Police closed the main A921 Kinghorn to Kirkcaldy road following the incident, which involved a silver VW Polo which had been travelling east towards Kirkcaldy
The single-vehicle accident was reported to the emergency services just after 7am and the road is expected to be shut for some time.
The 49-year-old driver was taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital with serious injuries and subsequently passed away.
Police have been assessing the damage to the bridge following the crash, but railway services were largely unaffected.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had two fire engines in attendance, one from Burntisland and one from Kirkcaldy, and assisted the ambulance service before clearing up the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Fife are currently in attendance on the A921, Kinghorn Road near Kirkcaldy following a serious road traffic collision that took place at around 7am on Wednesday July 18.
“The collision involved a Volkswagen Polo car and emergency services are currently at the scene.
“The road is currently closed at the junction with the B923 and the public are advised to avoid the area, where possible.”
