Police have charged a man said to have been clocked travelling at 75mph outside an Angus school on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were carrying out speed checks near Carmyllie Primary on Wednesday when the Audi A3 passed through the 20mph zone at about 3.40pm.
Children from the primary and nursery were said to be finishing up for the day and heading home at the time.
A man was stopped and charged with dangerous driving.
A Tayside Police Division statement said: “About 3:40pm, while 20mph speed restrictions were in effect, a blue Audi A3 was detected by officers travelling at 75mph.
“The driver was stopped, and charged with dangerous driving. He is to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
Inspector Ray Cuthill, Tayside Road Policing Inspector, said: “To drive in such a manner and at such speeds within a built up area is completely unacceptable.
“It is even worse that a driver would choose to drive at a speed approaching four times the speed limit past a primary school and nursery just as the children have finished for the day.
“Thankfully nobody was hurt as a result of the driver’s actions but it is clear that the outcome could have been much, much worse.
“Police officers in Tayside will continue to enforce road safety and to prioritise the areas that would benefit from it most, such as outside schools and areas with a history of collisions.
“Obviously the police cannot be everywhere at once and we rely on drivers taking responsibility for their own actions and driving with some common sense – something that was clearly lacking in this instance.”
