A male driver in his 50s is in a serious condition in hospital following a crash which forced the partial-closure of one of the busiest roads in Angus overnight.

The A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road was closed southbound between the Bogindollo and Forfar junctions in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident took place around two miles north of Forfar at 12.40am.

The 55-year-old driver was travelling alone when his red Volkswagen Up car left the road and struck a lamp post before coming to rest in the carriageway.

Only one vehicle was involved in the incident and the seriously injured man was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The victim is understood to have been placed in an induced coma following the crash.

The road was fully re-opened to traffic just after 5am.

Announcing the road closure, Tayside Police Division said: “Police Scotland are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the A90 approximately two miles north of Forfar.

“The road is currently closed southbound from the Bogindollo junction to the Forfar junction. Drivers are advised to avoid the area meantime.”

The force later updated: “Police Scotland can confirm that the road closure southbound on the A90 between the Bogindollo junction and Forfar Road junction has now been reopened.

“Police Scotland would like to thank motorist for their patience.”
