A “miracle” dog has cheated death after being run over by a double-decker bus in Dundee.
Hamish, a Lhasa Apso, lost an eye as a result of the ordeal but will lead a relatively normal life despite his trauma.
His owner, 32-year-old Annie Irving, from Errol, wants to thank those who helped in the aftermath of the incident, which happened on Dura Street earlier this week.
She said: “I don’t blame the driver at all for what happened.
“I had Hamish in the car, ready to go to the dog grooming salon.
“I was getting him out of the car but before I had a chance to put the lead on him he bolted – he must have got spooked by something.
“He ran into the path of a bus and when he got hit he was making a horrible noise. I could tell he was injured and chased after him.
“He ran all the way down Albert Street and Princes Street, until I lost sight of him.
“I was completely frantic – I knew my dog was badly injured and I’d lost him.
“On top of that, I’m 22 weeks pregnant and I knew the stress and shock wouldn’t be good for the baby.”
As Annie looked for Hamish, many passers-by stopped to help and kept her calm.
A woman even got out of her car to help with the search, which ended when Hamish was found at East Marketgait.
Annie added: “The person that found him took him to Parkside Vets – at that stage I was further up the road and they wouldn’t have known who the owner was.
“Hamish is micro-chipped, so the vets were able to get in touch with me.
“It’s a miracle that Hamish is alive, not many dogs can survive being hit by a double-decker bus.
“I was later told that the driver stopped and got out, as he wanted to see what he had hit. But by then, both Hamish and myself were away down the road.
“I don’t even remember what bus it was but I want to thank the driver for stopping and looking.”
Hamish is now back at his home in Errol, where he is said to be recovering well.
