Information on HGV driver sought as police name woman killed on A9 near Perth

The A9 road was closed at Inveralmond after Sunday morning's accident.
The A9 road was closed at Inveralmond after Sunday morning's accident.

A woman who was killed in a suspected hit-and-run on the outskirts of Perth has been named by police.

Doreen Williams, 80, died following the incident on the A9 Perth to Inverness road between the Broxden and Inveralmond roundabouts on Sunday, November 4.

The tragedy took place at about 2.15am.

Police successfully appealed for the person driving a white van around the time of the incident to come forward, with the driver providing “significant information”.

Now officers are seeking more information from people who were travelling southbound on the A9 at the time of the incident – including anyone who saw an HGV on the nearside lane of the carriageway with its hazard warning lights on.

Detective inspector Ray Birnie said: “Our thoughts are foremost with Doreen’s family. They are devastated by their loss and they are currently being supported by specialist police officers during this difficult time.

“Extensive police inquiries are ongoing and I can confirm that the driver of a white van has now responded to the initial witness appeal.

“The driver was able to provide significant information and has since been eliminated from our inquiry.

“However, it is absolutely vital that we speak to everyone who was travelling south on the A9 between the roundabout at Inveralmond and the roundabout at Broxden (at) about 2.15am on Sunday 4 November.

“We need to speak to anyone who saw Doreen walking along the A9 or on nearby Dunkeld Road or who saw an HGV lorry stopped on the nearside lane of the southbound carriageway with it’s hazard warning lights illuminated.

“We know that several vehicles passed both the incident and the HGV. I urge these drivers to come forward now.

“Doreen’s family need the help of the public to find the answer to what happened to their mother.

“If anyone has witnessed this incident, driven past it or has dashcam footage, then please call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 0672 of November 4 or speak to any Police officer.

“To remain anonymous, call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
