Police are to target speeding drivers heading to and from Crail raceway.
Concerns have been raised amid claims Crail Thrash fans have been driving at high speed on local roads.
Now Police Scotland officers and safety camera vans will start deployments on the routes into the raceway, Scotland’s only quarter mile drag strip, from this weekend.
This is in response to previous incidents when motorists have been found to put the foot down on public roads.
Inspector Jane Combe said: “Police Scotland is acting on concerns raised by the local community about speeding motorists travelling to and from the Crail raceway.
“We are pleased to be working with our colleagues at the east safety camera unit to ensure that motorists adhere to the speed limits”.
East safety camera unit manager Andy Jones added: “We would rather educate motorists on the dangers of driving at speeds that are unsuitable for the road conditions.
“However, previous occurrences of speeding on routes to the Crail raceway has meant that it is necessary to deploy our mobile cameras to encourage improved driver behaviour.”
Inspector Andy Mather, of Fife’s road policing unit, added: “During previous racing weekends at Crail, Police Scotland recorded incidents of motorists driving over the speed limit, particularly on the A92 between Redhouse and Cowdenbeath.
“We want to send a clear message to motorists that driving over the speed limit is not acceptable and they are putting themselves and other road users in danger.”
The deployments will begin this weekend, March 23 and 24, which is described by the raceway as The Big One, the Willie Robertson memorial which honours the founder of the event who died, aged 47, in 2013.
Director Victoria Robertson said: “Crail Raceway support anything that improves road safety and the public.
“The last campaign that was carried out and reported in The Courier in January 2017 stated that of the seven drivers stopped/fined or warned, none were attending the event at the airfield.
“We post, the morning of each event on our Facebook page, what the weather is like and remind and thank our customers to drive safe and respect the local routes/villages and speed restrictions.”
