Local rail services in Fife were severely disrupted after a tragedy on the line.
Emergency services were called to Dunfermline Town station at 6.30am on Wednesday after a person was struck by a train.
The casualty died at the scene.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “At 6.30am today, officers were called to Dunfermline Town station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended however a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. A report will be made to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The incident meant services through Fife were disrupted.
A ScotRail spokesman said: “Unfortunately we have had reports of a passenger being struck by a train between Glenrothes and Inverkeithing, because of this services will be disrupted.
“We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information from our staff on the ground.”

The disruption affected services running between Edinburgh and Cowdenbeath, and Edinburgh and Glenrothes.
Passengers were advised to use Stagecoach bus services, with rail tickets and Smartcards accepted for disrupted journeys.
The line was reopened shortly before 8.30am.
