Council crews were scrambled to the world’s biggest hedge – near Blairgowrie – to deal with a dangerous, over-hanging tree. Meikleour Beech Hedge The road was closed just before 2pm on Tuesday and reopened just before 4pm. The Meikleour Beech Hedge is recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the highest hedge in the world. Planted in 1745, it is more than 500m long and greater than 30m tall. In September, the hedge’s owner Sam Mercer Nairne was urged to cut back the landmark tourist attraction at a cost of around ÂŁ90,000.
