Menzies Distribution has strengthened its position in the Irish market with a €3.6 million swoop to acquire the 50% share of a logistics specialist it did not already own.
The deal with Irish retailer Eason means the Edinburgh-headquartered firm now has full control of news and magazine wholesaler EM News Distribution.
A total of a 193 staff will transfer over to Menzies Distribution on completion of the deal.
The move is the latest in a line of bolt-on acquisitions that Menzies Distribution has completed in the last 18 months as it moves to expand and diversify its portfolio.
Paul McCourt, Finance Director of Menzies Distribution, said: “This acquisition comes at a great time for our business and firmly reinforces the strategy we have been pursuing in recent years.
“We are continuing to build a business of scale with national coverage to offer services to the £55bn UK logistics market.”
