A Dundee company that operates a prominent kitchen and bathroom showroom and plumbing merchant is to close with the loss of 12 jobs.
The directors of Tayside Plumbing & Building Services said the business had been losing money for several years.
They said that following careful consideration, they had taken the decision to voluntarily wind up the business was it was “still solvent”. All creditors and staff will be paid in full.
Based in Eagle Mills in Dens Road, the company was established in 1974 as a plumbing and heating merchant.
It then opened showroom Kitchen and Bathroom World on the same site.
At its peak the firm employed 24 staff but this number has halved.
MHA Henderson Loggie has been engaged to assist with the winding up.
Shona Campbell from MHA Henderson Loggie said: “There have been significant changes in the UK plumbers and builders merchant market which is now dominated by a new national brands.
“Market consolidation and competition from online retailers and home improvements chains has had an impact on the company and the directors have taken the difficult decision to wind up the affairs of the company while it is still in a position to meet its obligations and pay in full what it owes staff and creditors.”
The site at Eagle Mills, which includes extensive warehouse facilities as well as the warehouse will be put up for sale.
Eagle Mill is a former jute mill that was built in 1864 and extended in 1930.
Redevelopment plans for the majority of Eagle Mills – not owned by Tayside Plumbing & Building Services – were lodged with Dundee City Council last year with conditional approval granted by planners.
The Eagle Mill scheme is a mixed use redevelopment comprising 34 residential apartments, a nursery school, bakery and coffee shop and a new fabrication unit to house a long-term industrial tenant.
