Last year may have been an unbelievable one for us at Arbroath but you can rest assured that no one is getting carried away.
To finish 2019 off with a 1-0 victory in the Highlands against second-placed Inverness Caley Thistle was just perfect.
Listen, we are probably punching above our weight as part-timers in the Championship but we keep landing blows on full-time sides.
No one will think it’s job done, though.
The gaffer Dick Campbell wouldn’t allow that and you wouldn’t worry about our group of players thinking like that anyway.
There have been pats on the back and the praise has been deserved.
For example, even though we drew with Dundee and lost to likely runaway champions Dundee United at Gayfield last month we earned the respect of both of those big clubs and could have taken more points than we did.
We don’t have superstars at the club but we do have quality players who also know how to work hard.
We don’t know what the new year will bring us but what I am certain about is that we will keep working hard in every game we play.
~ I thought the Dundee derby at Tannadice was the proverbial game of two halves, with the visitors the better side after the break.
As a goalie, I would pick out the save United’s Benjamin Siegrist made at close range to block Paul McGowan’s shot as a key moment in the game.
You can’t help thinking, though, that it’s United’s league to lose and they are there on merit.
I applaud them for that and am not surprised that they seemed relaxed about the result.
~ One thing we should all be wishing for this new year is the sight of Scotland fans singing and dancing at the Euro 2020 finals.
Our supporters would bring so much to the tournament that even neutrals should be cheering us on in the play-offs.
The fact that some matches are being played at Hampden surely means we must be there and that means getting right behind Steve Calrke and the players.
