Blether: John told Davie during Lochee Harp game – “Next time, gie me the baw!”
ByJohn Brown
The John Markie medal tale continues to provoke response, and the latest comes from yet another reader in Canada.
Davie Watson, now residing in Toronto, was a team-mate of John with Lochee Harp juniors.
He said: “Regarding John Markie’s medal, I was his inside-left in that season he was top scorer, but moved to Canada halfway through the season.
“I recall that, in one game at Beechwood Park, I was on the ball just inside the other team’s half and sent the ball out to my left-winger Arthur Finn.
“Well, I got some abuse from John for not giving him the ball.
“To which I replied, Arthur will send it into you.
“But that was not good enough for John, who shouted: ‘Next time, just gie me the baw’!
“That was John.”
On Twitter, @Countrybluenose replied to our March 3 edition.
He offered: “Sad to read about John Markie (who suffers from dementia), he turned me from defender to goalie in the late 1960s.”
What does this mean? Please elaborate.
