SP Query — How many games and goals did Arbroath president Ian Stirling (above) have for the club? Was there a long spell when he didn’t miss a game? — RL.
SP Answer — Ian joined Arbroath from Arbroath Lads Club in June 1960 and played at Gayfield until April 1970.
He made 371 appearances and scored 41 goals.
Between March 27, 1965, and April 19, 1969, he had an unbroken run of 179 games.
His best year for goals was in seaon 1961-62, when, playing mostly at inside-right, he scored 20 league goals in 29 matches.
He later played mostly at centre-half.
