Recent proposals and news concerning SPFL clubs prompted Kenneth Brannan to write once again to BwB.
“I have written to you many times over the years,” said Kenneth.
“However, up till now, every time I have written to you it has always been about either nostalgia or humour.
“This time, though, it may provoke comment from your readers.
“There has been a lot of talk in the Press in recent months about the possibility of an SPFL league match between Dundee and Celtic taking place in the USA to raise the profile of both clubs and the Scottish game in general.
“Great idea — but I think they are going about it the wrong way.
“This is because an ordinary league match worth only three points will not appeal to the paying public in the USA.
“Another reason is that the American public might end up thinking the Scottish (football) product is better than their own — or vice-versa.
“It might also cause arguments about season ticket holders being short-changed by having one less home match to watch and may even cause arguments with other teams about sporting integrity issues.”
Kenneth, of Lochee, Dundee, continued: “I believe the only way to go about this is to make the play-off final — to decide which team takes part in the SPFL Premier Division the following season — a one-off final match in either the USA or Canada.
“This would be ‘winner-takes-all’, with the match screened live on television to as many countries as possible.
“Immediately prior to the Scottish match, there should be an American soccer match played at the same stadium.
“That match, too, should also be live on television to the same countries as the Scottish fixture.
“Imagine David Beckham’s Miami MLS taking on LA Galaxy at 1pm followed at 3pm in the same stadium by the SPFL Premier Division play-off final?
“Such a programme — with somebody like Mr Beckham promoting it — would raise the profile of both leagues and cause no arguments at all.”
