Blether with Brown: Dundee United played in Violet centenary
ByJohn Brown
Signing himself only as ‘Patty The Pansy’, he wanted to know details of the match Dundee Violet had to celebrate their centenary.
He reckoned it was against a very strong Dundee United side and that Violet won the game.
Violet’s centenary match took place on Sunday, December 4, 1983, at their Glenesk Park ground.
It wasn’t a full-on Violet side which took on United but more of a Tayside Junior Select.
United certainly fielded a team with many first-team regulars.
Tayside lined up — Wilson (Violet); Mackie (Violet), Sutherland (Violet), McManus (Harp), Clark (Harp), Scrimgeour (North End), Fairfield (St Joseph’s), Bennett (Forfar West End), Manderson (Harp), Markie (Violet), Thoms (Broughty Athletic). Subs — Clark (Broughty Athletic), Kelly (Harp), Clark (North End).
United took the field with — Gardiner; Malpas, Murray, Kirkwood, McGinnis, Narey, Bannon, Milne, Reilly, Clark, Dodds. Subs — Page, W Smith.
The select side won 4-2.
