Gordon Strachan the man to lead Scotland to Russia 2018

Just like everyone else in the media and a whole big chunk of the Tartan Army, for me, Gordon Strachan is the man to lead us in the next qualifying campaign.

We’ve actually been good to watch over the past couple of years and that hasn’t always been the case with Scotland sides of the recent past.

OK, we’ve bottled it again when it mattered but the way we’ve played is encouraging.

And — always looking for a positive — our group for Russia 2018 looks a tad easier than we’ve been dealt before.

It seems like the decision is ultimately up to Strachan to decide if he wants to continue but the support for him and his team in Faro was fantastic.

His loyalty to Steven Fletcher paid off, too, with four goals — something mentioned in my column last week.
