Recently, in our feature regarding brothers who played together for one of the city clubs Dundee and Dundee United, Jimmy Millar’s name came up.
He and brother Tommy played for Dundee United in the early to mid-1960s.
Willie Crossan, of Peddie Street, Dundee, remembers him leaving Tannadice to take up the Raith post but reckons it was only offered to him after his former Ibrox team-mate Bobby Shearer turned down the job.
A delve into our archives reveals Millar joined Raith as manager in February 1969.
There is no mention of Shearer in reports at that time but it does reveal that his other former Rangers team-mate Eric Caldow was also interviewed on the same day.
