A wee birdie tells me “it is 50 years ago this year since the Lochee Renton football team brought the Scottish Juvenile Cup to the city of Dundee”.
The female reader asked me not to name her but I thank her for bringing this anniversary to the attention of BwB.
Of course, this column has highlighted this great feat by Renton many times over the years with different tales from different players and committee men.
She continued: “I thought it would be appropriate for you to mention them in your column. No doubt you have dozens of photographs of this wonderful team on file, and many reports from Jimmy Johnstone, who reported at the time on record.
“I attach a more up-to-date picture of some of the team, with the late John O’ Brien.
“It’s great to see that 50 years later they remain good friends.”

This Lochee Renton team group from May 1965 (below) has featured before but it’s worth repeating again given the special anniversary and features some of the aforementioned above.
Back row (from left) — J Pacione (coach), W McKenzie, B Dougan, P Higgins, T Lonie, J Callaghan, W Black, W Barrie. Front — P Clark, E Thoms, B Kelly, E McAulay, J Jack.
Renton, of course, won the national cup again two years later.
