Former East Craigie stalwart Lil Lindsay was recently roped back into the game, helping clear out a room at Violet, which was being refurbished.
However, as she got to work tidying the place up, she unearthed three Scotland Junior Football caps.
Two are dated 1901-02 and the other is from 1921-22.
“No-one at the club has any idea of who the caps belonged to,” said Lil, whose son Scott is currently team boss at Glenesk.
“They have markings on them which suggest they were for games against Ireland, Wales and England.
“But, apart from that, we are in the dark who they belonged to.
“It would be great to find out.”
The cap on the right is from a Scotland v Wales match in 1922.
Violet player Donaldson played in that 2-1 win on March 25 at Dens.
The crimson and yellow cap is from Scotland’s 6-0 win over Ireland at Celtic Park on March 11, 2002, with the brown cap being awarded to those who played England shortly after on April 5 at Villa Park (score unknown).
Violet players listed as capped early in the 1900s included McNiff, Young and Briggs but I can’t specifically link any player to these caps.
