An ex-colleague asked BwB for information on a game when Celtic visited town.
It wasn’t to play Dundee or Dundee United, or, indeed, any other senior team.
The Parkhead giants came to Tayside to take on Broughty Athletic at Whitton Park.
“Twenty five years ago (May 5, 1990), Broughty Athletic juniors played a Celtic squad and Broughty won 1-0,” she recalled.
“We have Googled lots of sites but can’t find anything on it.
“Would Blether with Brown have any info on it.”
The game was a joint testimonial for long-serving Broughty players Bruce Glenn and Ian Findlay. As my old colleague said, The Fed won 1-0 with a goal from Cree after just three minutes.
There weren’t any recognised first-team players in Celtic’s squad but Lisbon Lion Bobby Lennox was one of their substitutes.
Broughty lined up: Glenn; Buist, Findlay, Cook, Young, Tait, Reilly, Gaffney, Cree, Kirkcaldy, Haxton. Subs Cooper, Taylor, Dodds, McKenzie, Warrick.
Celtic Murdoch; Dolan, Bietty, O’Neill, Baillie, Hastie, McBride, Finnon, McCarrison, Britton, Bendoris. Subs Leddie, Lennox.
Referee was Dundee whistler T McDonald.
If anyone has any more info on this game, I’d be glad to hear from you.
