Much-travelled David Mahady read with interest an article from September last year . . . ‘Rockwell Primary win Sports Cup’.
“It has been 57 years since Rockwell won that trophy, and my son once asked if I played football when I was his age,” said David (ddmonly@gmail.com).
“After years in Africa, Cuba and Panama, where I am retired, I looked up the internet and found, with glee, your article.
“It brought back happy memories.
“I was captain of the Rockwell team and I also still have my medal.
“The first game was at East End Park and the replay was at Balfield Park.
“Rockwell won on corners.
“Contributor Davie Watson (he will remember his nickname was ‘Snowball’) played for Butterburn School in that game.
“We became great friends and went on to play for the highly-successful Butterburn Youth Club and played together in the Scottish Cup Final.
“I left for Africa in 1967 and lost touch with Davie and was not aware he had gone to Canada until I read your article.
“It would be great to meet up with him again at some stage.
“I was also great friends with Davie Francis and Alan Haxton from the Rockwell team.”
