Following on from Dundee FC’s B Division success stories of season 1946-47, Dave Ewen tells me of a “wonderful” photo of that team.
“It used to hang in the Royal Arch pub in Broughty Ferry,” said Dave, well known for being in charge of the Carnoustie Panmure junior side of the 1970s, along with Charlie Dunn.
The Royal Arch was legendary as there was hardly an inch of wall in the public bar which didn’t have a photo of mainly local sports stars.
Dave’s father Ernie was one of the stars of the side, and he continued: “What was so unique about this particular photo was that it was taken outside of Dens Park in Sandeman Street.
“When the Royal Arch was recently refurbished, myself and my sons Andy and Barry, who both live in Broughty Ferry, hoped to get the photo to keep in the family.
“However, that didn’t materialise as many were auctioned off for charity but we would still like a copy.”
Dave, who currently lives and works in the Liverpool area, revealed he has something special belonging to his dad.
“We have his gold medal, which was awarded to each player in the team for winning that division,” he said. “It would be great to get a copy of the photo to go alongside it.”
Dave now has a copy of the photo, which was found in the DC Thomson archives.
