Arabzone’s Andy Boyd wants help with some information of Dundee United in a different guise… and over 100 years ago.
“I’ve come across a meeting of Dundee Hibs and Lochee Harp in a benefit match on April 24, 1912.
“The game finished 0-0, with takings of 30 shillings (£1.50 in today’s currency).
“Nothing unusual in itself but none of the Dundee United books mention it!
“Not only that but I can’t find any mention of the Dundee Hibs team in the newspapers of the time.
“Apart from a lucky find of two trialist names, there is nothing.
“The trialists were Farquharson of Perth (no club or position) and Fachie of Perth Roselea, who later became a notable committee member in Perth Junior football circles.
“Harp listed a team in that Tuesday edition of The Evening Telegraph and Post.
“It was Swan; Anderson and Ferguson; Smith, Smith and Purvie; Smith, Yule, Buist, Croll and Robertson.
“I wonder if your readers can help name the rest of the Hibs team?
“Maybe someone at Harp could have a record of this match.”
