The story of Muirfield’s Scottish Cup win in BwB on March 17 brought back memories for Alex Forrester.
Alex, now 79, refereed the final at Thomson Park, home of Lochee United.
“I was very proud to have refereed that match and it was a great game,” he recalled.
“Muirfield beat Dundee United SC 1-0.
Alex, originally from Charleston in Dundee but now living in Rosemount, Blairgowrie, also revealed: “I originally got a bit of stick from some of the United club at the time because they knew I was a Dundee fan.
“However, that had nothing to do with things as far as I was concerned and it was a very close game.
“Anyway, they didn’t complain a couple of weeks previously when I refereed another game between the same sides.
“This time it ended 5-1 to DUSC,” laughed the retired joiner.
