ByEvening Telegraph Reporter
Andy Hughes asked for help in identifying a testimonial match.
“I recall being at a Dundee United v Dundee game at Tannadice which finished 7-7,” he stated.
“I’m sure it was a testimonial game but I can’t remember who for.
“It would have taken place in the late 1970s or early 1980s, and I recall Jocky Scott guested for Dundee. Some of my mates think I’ve went mad but I recall it vividly.”
The city teams drew 7-7 on October 11, 1976, at Dens Park in a testimonial for Ian Macdonald.
Both teams fielded guest players in their line-ups.
Jocky Scott got a hat-trick for Dundee (one from a penalty), as did Gordon Strachan, with Derek Laing picking up a single.
United’s scorers were Paul Hegarty (2), John Greig, Colin McAdam, Ronnie Glavin, Graeme Payne and an own goal by Bobby Ford.
Dundee Donaldson (Allan); Ford (Martin), Houston (Dundee United); Robinson, McPhail (Gemmell), Phillip; Hoggan (Laing), Strachan, Pirie (Hutchinson), Scott (Aberdeen), Purdie.
