Blether with Brown: Davie hit two 25-yarders against goalie Hamish
ByEvening Telegraph Reporter
Former Butterburn Youth Club footballer Davie Watson, now resident in Canada, responded to the St Francis and North End story (Dec 30).
“I believe that North End team photo was taken before a cup final against my Harp team,” offered Davie. It was one of the last games I played for Harp.
“Harp won two cups that season before I left for Toronto.
“I scored two 25-yarders against Hamish McAlpine, my old team-mate at The Burn.
“I think we were 2-0 down and the score ended up 2-2.
Davie laughed: “Hamish will probably want to forget that game but it certainly brought back lots of memories for me.”
Davie also supplied a photo of Butterburn from his time there.
“This is a picture of The Burn on their way to Airdrie to play Drumchapel in the U/18 Scottish Cup Final. This was taken at the old bus stances at Shore Terrace.
“We were leading 1-0 with just minutes to go, then they equalised. In extra time, the Glasgow side went on to win 5-1.’’
