George Mather is organising a 40-year reunion for the players who played in the Fintry Primary School football teams in 1973 and 1974.
The event goes ahead on Saturday (March 7) in Clark’s on North Lindsay Street, Dundee.
“The teams were very successful under the guidance of teacher/coach Frank Leighton,” said George.
“The 1973 team won the league and Burgess Cup but lost out in the final of the Junior Sports Cup.
“Out of their 25 games played, they won 20, lost three and drew two.
“Just under 100 goals were scored (97).
“The 74 team, however, blew away everyone before them, and won every one of their 18 games.
“This, of course, included the three aforementioned trophies, and also the Police Fives tournament.
“They scored an incredible 121 goals and conceded just eight.
“Players who went senior were John Reilly, who won the league with Dundee United, Charlie Adam and Gordon Winter.
“Sadly, taken too young, four players are no longer with us Kenny Smart, Philip Carr, Charlie Adam and, just last November, Mike ‘Spike’ McLeary.
“Frank Leighton will be present and we invite all the boys at the school from these two years not just the players to attend. They will be very welcome.”
