Blether with Brown: There’s no hiding place for Norrie

Author Norrie Price, who is Aberdeen-based, has been alerted to recent stories in BwB about Dundee FC crowds.

We used Norrie’s book ‘They Wore The Dark Blue’ to confirm or otherwise crowd sizes which our own files could not reveal.

“Just came across your BwB article re Paul Strachan’s post re stats in TWDB,” said Norrie, a lifelong Dark Blues fan.

“It’s over 20 years since I researched stats for that book but, if I’ve put 60,000, that would, indeed, be an abnormally large crowd for such a game.

“Research was done largely at Wellgate Library from the Dundee Advertiser and Dundee Courier.

“It is possibly a typing error or another possibility is that I misinterpreted a headline paragraph saying it was a British record gate which, perhaps, referred to the large international crowd that same day.

“It certainly bears looking into, though I can’t see myself visiting the Wellgate any time soon!”

Norrie continued: “I meant to respond to your article regarding the Bob Shankly (first day at Dens) picture.

“It was very nicely done and a bit of a surprise to find my mugshot in the Tele as, coincidentally, I’d bought a copy in the BP garage outside Dundee while en-route for a couple of days at Dunkeld.

“It all goes to prove there’s no hiding place these days… even at a crowded Dens Park!”
