Blether with Brown: Benjy recalls Dundee police football teams
ByEvening Telegraph Reporter
Bruce ‘Benjy’ Mitchell, a former clubmate with the Auchterhouse side of the late 1970s, sent in a couple of photos of Dundee police football teams.
“On the first photo (far left), Andy Penman’s brother is the goalkeeper, while Ally Shepherd is two more to the right,” said Benjy.
“In the front row, my brother Willie Mitchell is in the inside-right position, Bobby Donaldson as centre-forward and Nicol Bathie is outside-left.
“In the second photo (immediate left), Jim Young is subby, while Ally Shepherd is third from right on the back row.
“Dougie Tosh is second from right, and he is the current president of NCR in the Midlands Amateur FA.
“In the front row, Andy Penman’s brother is in the outside-right position this time, my brother Willie inside-right once again, and Bobby Donaldson is third from right.
“I should know all the rest of the names but have forgotten them.
“I recently met Ally Shepherd in Maplins that’s what prompted me to send you the pics.”
Benjy also sent in other photos and I’ll share them with you over the coming weeks.
