Blether with Brown: John was skipper before Dundee’s greatest captain By John Brown December 31 2014, 5:00am December 31 2014, 5:00am Share Blether with Brown: John was skipper before Dundee’s greatest captain Share via Facebook Twitter Linkedin Whatsapp Messenger Email Post link https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/columnists/2620801/blether-with-brown-john-was-skipper-before-dundees-greatest-captain/ Copy Link Arlene Shirkey told in last week’s BwB of her late dad John Duffy’s involvement with Dundee Rockets in the 1950s. She has also sent in photos of his successful time with the SS Peter and Paul Primary School football team. In the photo from 1945-46 (photo 1), he is seen holding the AC Little Cup, as, according to an uncle, he was the captain of the side. John is also featured in ‘The Paulies’ photo of 1947 (photo 2) a team which won three trophies in seven days. The team picked up the League Shield, Rock Cup and Meikleham Cup. In the 45-46 photo is also one Bobby Cox, who, of course, went on to be Dundee FC’s league-winning captain. Many of the players in these photographs have been featured over the years in BwB in the later stages of their football careers. I was also tickled at the way the ‘jannie’ was in the photos. IF you’ve got any story’s to share with John send them in. Email: jbrown@dcthomson.co.uk This article originally appeared on the Evening Telegraph website.
