In response to my plea for info on St Francis youth team, John Wright sent in a few photos of The Frannies, along with others.
“Most of the St Michael’s Secondary football players also played for St Francis,” said John, who sent in photos of both teams.
“We used to play in the morning for the school and in the afternoon for St Francis on the same day.
“I can confirm our coach was Danny Clink.
“I have also sent a photo of a North End team when they had an association with Dundee FC.
“However, goalkeeper Hamish McAlpine must have escaped through the net.
“I am squatting with the ball.
“It would be good if you could fill in the names in the photo.”
I didn’t see that much of a connection with Dundee apart from Dennis Elder and George Hill, who had a spell at Dens around that time.
The photo was taken in May 1967 and the names are (back row, from left) Elder, McNab, McAlpine, Bonar, Westhall, McKimmie, Allison.
Front row Ewing, Ross, Wright, Robertson, Hill.
This team may have been beaten in two cup finals that 66-67 season . . . by Harp in the Courier Cup and by St Joseph’s in the Telegraph Cup.
I would welcome any other info on this team in addition to clarification of these finals.
