Blether with Brown: Graeme’s Menzieshill team had a ‘flare’ for penalties
ByJohn Brown
I don’t have many names of these players in this Menzieshill High School U/15 football team from 1976.
However, I do recognise the manager as Graeme Rodger, a team-mate of mine with Broughty Athletic around that time.
Graeme, a PE teacher, was a very skilful player himself and obviously passed on some of his handiwork to the boys as they won the Dundee United Cup that season, in addition to the league title and the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, where they were eliminated only after extra time.
The caption on the back lists Colin Craig as getting a special award from the school for reaching the final of a penalty-kick competition at Hampden Park.
Colin and another player, Neil Stewart, also played for the North of Tay Select that year, and were Dundee United and Dundee ‘S’ signings respectively.
I’m sure comments will be made about Graeme’s “natty” flared trousers, so common at that time.
Can anyone give the names of these players and any other information about them and the team?
